District Chairman’s Message

Greetings from District 322 – Sri Lanka!!!

The worldwide Inner Wheel movement is dedicated to the betterment of underprivileged women, children and the elderly through community-oriented service projects. This year the worldwide movement, under the leadership of International Inner Wheel President Catherine Refabert, has given us an inspiring theme.

Think Ahead - Aim High

With such a theme we should not be afraid to try new things……. to have VISION.  The ability to think, with knowledge of the past, and a vision for the future; the skill to engage in useful service; and the urge to utilize that service; for the well-being of the community- are the vital elements that we should work with. We should be ambitious with our projects. At the end of the day we may be surprised about how successful we can be. VISION, ENTHUSIASM AND PLANNING  for the future should our guiding principles.

With this theme in mind, the signature Project for the year 2011-12 --“Hope for Tomorrow”- will support victims of rape and their children in many districts of our island.  We will assist these neglected sisters by providing them with means of livelihood, and their children with support for their educational needs.

Giving effect to our motto “Friendship and Service” all of us should approach the tasks ahead with commitment, friendship, patience, respect, diplomacy,  a positive attitude, kindness, understanding and serenity. May the Inner Wheel commitment to Service bring them some moments of joy to those we assist and for all of you, countless moments of happiness……..
This in turn will make it possible to make our small corner of the world a better place for the less fortunate, the underprivileged and the marginalized.  I am sure all of us have experienced the joy and satisfaction we derive, when we complete any project which is of service to those in need.

If we can only,

PUT A SMILE……. ON ONE SAD FACE;
TOUCH A LONELY LIFE……… WITH GRACE;
WIPE A TEAR;  ……..
CALM A FEAR; ………
OR……… BRING SOME LIGHT TO ONE DARK PLACE.

Wishing you all a very pleasant Inner Wheel year,

Yours in friendship,

Roshani Peiris
District Chairman 2011-2012
